Over the course of the last millennia, continuous migrations, trade routes, cultural exchanges, and the exchange of ideas led to several tribal communities from ancient Turkestan moving to and settling in Eastern and Central Anatolia, where they developed their own traditions and cultures, including one of their most important: felt making.

Their particular felt typology is based on archaic patterns that are much older than the later Muslim iconography, and on the use of neutral, undyed wool colors.
